About + FAQ
Narrative Experiment is an effort to help long-form narrative improvisers more consistently create interesting and engaging stories, re-shaping what an improv rehearsal looks like, and deepening the performers' understanding of the story generation process.
That effort is currently happening through this website, as a series of articles with information about improv concepts, skills, and exercises, and through a live, in-person workshop series, where these ideas are put to the test (and possibly changed!).
Who runs Narrative Experiment?
Dylan Erwin-Forehand.
Who's he?
He's me.
I've been performing improv around Los Angeles, largely through Impro Theatre, since 2018. I'm originally from Dallas, Texas. I studied Theatre Acting and Directing at Pepperdine University. At Impro, I've been part of shows like Pulp Playhouse, Rom-Com Improvised, Shakespeare Improvised, Tennessee Williams Improvised, and Stephen King Improvised. When I'm not doing theatre, I'm usually reading, playing video games, or cooking for my wife and dog.
You should come over sometime.
Where does the artwork on this site come from?
Midjourney! It's an image generation program that runs through Discord. At the moment, I'm trying to include slightly simplified versions of the prompts I used to generate each image (I leave out some things like color prompts, aspect ratio, image weights, and the proper formatting of "no" commands).
